I shoot film for myself
My photography is for me to delight in and for you to hopefully think about
I've surrounded myself with epic photographers my whole life. My mother was an avid shooter when I was young and she also took many photography courses which allowed her to find her own style behind the lens. My father shoots for reference for his artwork, so he often has a camera by his side. Photography has always been this way for me.
They both shot for themselves and for no one else. No “likes” or “viral posts/reels” and they for sure didn’t throw shade at their creative community.
When I set out on a photowalk, I’m thinking about how I can show parts of Tokyo that have an impact on me. That’s it. I’m not thinking about who’s going to like the images or not. I’m concentrating on composition, lighting, where to stand, etc.. I do think many photographers are the same way, but I’m just here, yapping about what goes on in my world.
We walked past this light and I asked my pal to come back and stand there. It turned out so well. I shot this for me.
